I’ll take things not seen for sale in the USA very often for $2800, Alex...

Kinja'd!!!

looks like it was partially repainted and theycouldn’t be arsed to remove all the masking before putting it on sale.

Kinja'd!!!

Is the alternator missing? Some evidence of re-wiring. Also, broken tail light lens... (that carb is tiny!)

Kinja'd!!!

Vermont temp-reg plate... and obligatory twin-crome tailpipe... you can see some of the body filler work here, where the bumper posts attach.

Kinja'd!!!

hmmm, made in Germany? were any 500s actually made in Germany, or do they mean Austria...? (glass all looks good, but some seals are pretty ugly. Has ugly aftermarket seats in it, but they are probably better in every way except appearance to the factory seats. Alpine CD stereo)

Kinja'd!!!

Fresh Hancooks, thats nice...

Kinja'd!!!

little rust evident underneath...

Kinja'd!!!

some body filler use evident, where the *right* choice would have been to repair the dent better in the first place...

Kinja'd!!!

again, the underside looks surprisingly clean...

$2800... does it run? Who knows (I suppose you could call the number...)! Is it inspectable in this state? If you know the right guy (but it hasn’t been yet...)!

Side of the road sale, no evidence of listing on local or national “usual suspect” on-line markets, unless it’s on a Fiat forum classified listing...

So what say ye Oppo, should I investigate further? Do any of you want to, now that you’ve seen it?

Give it to me now! I grew up in a Zastava 750 and I have a 2014 Abarth now. There is just something about those...

Engine is missing parts, so definitely not a runner. Still for what nice ones sell for you could probably find the parts and fix it up pretty easily.

Huh? Made in Germany? There was a German car built based on the 500, the Weinsberger/NSU 500. But that one looked totally different.

Kinja'd!!!

“Regular” 500 s were built by Steyer Puch in Austria. These had other badges up front, usually (or: as far as I know) that is.

But a seller claiming this isn’t someone that really cares about his product. I’d pass it anyway.

Made in Germany makes no sense, but if the rust isn’t bad, that’s a nice price over here. I’d love to find a Weinsberger. Look at that thing.

yeah, thats what I thought. I knew Styer Puch built 500s, and they were reported to be the “best” 500s, but never made in Germany to my knowledge... it might have been re-badged to a Fiat from Puch....

Nice price (so long as it’s not all rust and chewing gum)! If it wasn’t on the other side of the continent, that’s one I’d drag home. Parts aren’t hard to find if you’re willing to have them shipped from Euroland. It’s got wacky wheels and a dumb interior, but it shouldn’t take too much work to get it running.

And it was not made in Germany. Turin is in Italy.

There’s some pretty mediocre dent repair evident, but the metal looks surprisingly solid on the whole. And yeah, I know the seller’s smoking crack about it being made in Germany... it *could* be an Austrian Steyer Puch, but without seeing the build plate I can’t tell...

I’m not as sure as you are. No shots of the interior and the stuff I see ain’t original. So getting it in decent shape will set you back pretty much. Again: a seller of these types of cars with such outings, I just don’t trust ‘m.

The Weinsberg Coupe was even more epic.

Kinja'd!!!

Look at that rearwindow!

All I can tell: It sure ain’t an original US-500 as it misses those awful headlights.

My former statement about not getting such a special vehicle at someone claiming these curious facts remains ;-)

I’m assuming he saw “Turin” on the build plate which is why he put it on the sign and is an idiot who doesn’t know geography. I hope someone saves it and doesn’t turn it into something stupid. Although, with that price and the modifications it already has, something stupid might not be the worst idea.

I don’t know. Based on his knowledge and the sob story I’d give him about how hard it will be to restore it, I think I could get it for a song. That’s how I bought a Goggomobil for $900 from a guy in Minnesota. It had been sitting on his front lawn for 20 years, but still. It does have the wrong interior and wheels, but I don’t see anything too difficult. Says the guy who’s spent a year and a half trying to get a Le Car road worthy.

That wraparound window is so sweet. It actually looks a lot like the Goggo coupe.

thats sort of what i was thinking... for $2800 it becomes a target for ‘Busa-ing.... or just any modern FI motorcycle engine, really...

Yeah, which I get. But, you can do some simple modifications to the stock motor and have one of the most fun cars you’ll ever drive. And it’ll be worth a lot more than the motorcycle engined car.

Very NP! If it’s fairly solid, it would make a very fun car...looks like the original engine. I can tell you it’s a ‘69-’72 FIAT 500F model, which would’ve the ‘base’model at the time....the more featured filled 500L had different bumpers with overriders, a different, more rectangular gauge cluster with fuel gauge (this one has the round cluster with no fuel gauge).

The engine is def missing the alternator, and would be a 500cc with 17hp - crash, no-synchro gearbox as well. The rest of the engine bay looks complete enough though. Parts are easy to get and fit, the car’s dead simple. The engine and transmission are bolted in with only like 4-5 bolts, and the whole rear lower valance comes off for ease of access. Engine is small enough two average guys could lift and move it around, NO problem...or even one strong guy!

If I was there, I would’ve already brought it home 10 times over...$2800 is a KILLER price if it’s not a rust bucket!

If it was on this coast, I absolutely would. After shipping, it won’t be such a deal. I know where there’s some Panhards frying in the desert. I’d like to see you get parts for those.
